Is Your Dana 60 Standard or Reverse Rotation?

Reverse Rotation / High Pinion Standard Rotation / Low Pinion

Dana 60 front axles come in two styles: standard rotation low-pinion and reverse rotation high-pinion. Standard rotation axles use the same gears found in Dana 60 rear axles and reverse rotation axles require reverse rotation Dana 60 gears. Gear Rotation

The Dana 60 is made in three configurations:

Standard Rotation, Rear
Standard Rotation, Front
Reverse Rotation, Front

Reverse rotation front axles have a pinion located above the axle centerline making them easy to identify as "high-pinion" axles.

Carrier Breaks

The Dana 60 has a 4.10/4.56 carrier break:

Lower Carrier:3.54 to 4.30* gears
Higher Carrier:4.56 to 7.17 gears

4.56 to 5.38 "thick" gears are available to fit the lower carrier.

*4.30 gears are only available for front Dana 60 axles and these gears fit the 4.10 and down lower carrier only.

Spline Count

Dana 60 axles are available with 16, 23, 30, 32, 33, and 35 axle shafts. Axles can be upgraded to stronger axle shafts with up to 40 splines by changing the differential, bearings, and seals.

Dana Super 60

Modern Ford F450/F550 trucks have a Dana Super 60 front axle that features a slightly larger 10" ring gear, larger u-joints, and heavier duty unit bearings.

Dana Super 60 ring and pinion gears will fit standard Dana 60 axles, although, some minor clearancing may be required.
