The Dana 60 front high pinion, reverse rotation axle with 4.56 and up carrier and 35 spline axle shafts is an extremely tough and highly desirable front axle. It has been made in numerous configurations, all used by Ford going back to 1978. A "Super 60" version was introduced in 2002 and features larger 10" ring and pinion gears and 33 spline stub shafts. The parts listed on this page have been verified to fit these axle configurations.
- Dana 60 (Snowfighter) with King Pin Knuckles and 9.75" Gears
- Dana 60 (Non-Super) with Balljoint Knuckles and 9.75" Gears
- Dana Super 60 with Balljoint Knuckles, 10" Gears and 1480 U-Joints
- Dana Super 60 with Balljoint Knuckles, 10" Gears and 1550 U-Joints
Is your Axle a Standard Dana 60 or a Dana Super 60?
This axle configuration was offered in "Super" and "Standard" versions, both of which require different internal components so you will need to determine which version your axle has. Find your axle BOM in the table under the "Dana 60 BOM Check" menu on this page for details and confirm the specs with the notes below.
- If the stub shafts have 35 splines it is a Dana Super 60 axle.
- If the stub shafts have 30 splines it is a standard Dana 60 axle.
- If the axle came from a 2001 or older vehicle, it is a standard Dana 60 axle.
- If the axle has king pin style knuckles, it is a standard Dana 60 axle.
Minor and Master Overhaul Kits

Ring and Pinion Gears

Replace your broken or worn out axle shafts with stock replacements or upgrade to high performance chrome-moly axle shafts to handle more power and larger tires.
Note: Dana 60 axles use various length axle shafts. You will need to either measure your existing shafts to order the proper length or order a set that can be cut to size. Quadrasteer axles are not supported at this time.

Note: Standard front 35 spline Dana 60 axles feature 30 spline stub shafts, however, 35 spline stub shafts are a very common upgrade.

Differential Cover Gaskets
Red High-Temp RTV Silicone (available at your local auto parts store) is the most common way to seal the differential cover on a Dana 60 axle, however, several aftermarket manufacturers now offer reusable gaskets that are much cleaner.

Dana Spicer recommends 80w90 Mineral oil or 75W140 synthetic oil, however, we recommend 75w90 full-synthetic gear oil for all Dana 60 applications (plus a traction modifier for differentials that require it).

It is not common to need to replace a pinion yoke but in high horsepower applications, or if your driveshaft has been upgraded to larger u-joints, you may need to purchase a stronger and/or larger yoke.
